There are many to choose from. If you have a group of 3 or more, I suggest booking a private van transfer in advance. We have used Playa Transfers (playatransfers.com) and Cancun Transfers & Tours (+52 55 4349 4939). Additional recommendations include vendors like USA Transfers (usa-transfers.com) or CARM Transfers (cancunandrivieramaya.com). Compare prices, many run specials. For airport transfers for 3 passengers or less, I highly recommend "Tania" with Max Tours (+52 984 154 7681-Spanish only but you can use Google translate), they also offer private rental cars and various tours (mention "Dayna" for the best rates for all of their services). We have also used Karla (Whatsapp +52 998 188 5533-bilingual) and Leslie (Whatsapp +1 713 550 7834-English): they are both very reliable. Budget travelers can take the ADO Bus from the airport terminal to the Puerto Morelos highway turnoff, then grab a local taxi (Purchase tickets at the official ADO ticket counters inside your arrival terminal or directly in the outdoor platform areas. You can check schedules via the official (https://tickets.ado.com.mx/). The Maya Tren will get you here; however, the schedules are limited and you will still need a taxi upon arrival to Puerto Morelos (sometimes not available). The station is on Rutas de Los Cenotes and not Puerto Morelos proper. Two things to note: 1) Hailing a Taxi directly at the airport terminal, can have higher rates. 2) Use caution while passing through the “shark tank” as you are exiting the airport. They will ask you if you need a ride or looking for a transportation company and when really they are hoping to sell you an excursion etc. A simple and polite “no gracias” usually works.

The standard mandated local zone fare is typically between 50 to 80 Pesos depending on the exact drop-off street. Taxis are not metered, so always confirm the price with the driver before getting into the car. If there is a dispute, ask the driver to see their official rate card (tarifa). Our favorite taxi guy is Sergio Taxi 392- +52 998 240 3391, Spanish speaking only.

Uber operates in the area. The local taxis have an app called Eiby Taxi Cliente. The InDrive app (you name your price) is also available; however, more frequenbtly used in Playa del Carmen.

They are the cheapest way to move around, costing exactly 10 Pesos per ride. The main route loops constantly from the town square on the Port side, up the main avenue (Joaquín Zetina Gasca) to the highway, and into La Colonia. Flag them down anywhere along the route with a wave. They pass frequently during the day, but run less reliably at night and will skip you if they are completely full.

That’s a tough one; we have sooo many that we go to. Puerto Morelos is known for its gastronomy. The Port side is favored for its ocean views and moderate to upscale atmosphere, with top spots like Muelle Once, Lola y Moya, Blue, Portside PM, Matea's, El Nicho, El Pesqueros, La Sirena, La Pepita en La Playita, Punta Corcho, Peninsula, and Dai Smokehouse to name a few. La Colonia is the undisputed authentic, budget-friendly restaurants and street food. Some of our favorite restaurants: La Bodega Verde, Sabor al Puerto, Pecao, El Picudo, Los Koras, Pollo de Sinaloa, Tulipan (especially for catering) and Chula mi Madre. You can also visit the central park area in the evening for more local taco stands, churros, marquesitas (sweet crepes), esquites (corn, mayo, lime juice, cheese and chili powder).

Head directly to the Portside beach bars and restaurants. Places like La Sirena, Ki Restaurant at Ojo de Agua Beach Club, Los Molcajetes D.E.D.O., El Piratas, Taninos, and Cantina Haberneros feature rotating schedules of local rock, blues, and reggae musicians. Happy hour drink specials typically run from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM to coincide with sunset. On the Colonia side Las Micheladas del Semaforo (The restaurant you see when you first come into town off highway 307 on the right side). Tulipan restaurant (www.facebook.com/tulipanpuertomorelos)

There are three main grocery stores, the large Chedraui located right off Highway 307 stocks staples along with specialty goods, imported cheeses, some organic items, wine and liquor, beachwear, beds and appliances. Super Aki, also off the highway is slightly smaller but good choice on the La Colonia. On the Portside there is a Chedraui Selecto which will remind you of popular grocery store chains in the US. It has all of things youwill find in the Chedraui on the Colonia and more.

Many people buy their produce from the fruteria’s. We use Fruteria Chulim I and II (pesos only) and also Fruteria el Deportivo Villas II (they accept credit card ). For produce on the portside use Fruteria El Puerto or the Wednesday morning Artisans market, and the Sunday morning Tianguis.

It is highly seasonal, usually appearing between April and August. The amount changes daily based on wind patterns and ocean currents. Yes, it is very safe. It maintains a tight-knit, quiet community feel different from the hustle and bustle of Cancun or Playa del Carmen. Violent crime targeting tourists is incredibly rare. Exercise normal, everyday precautions.

No, do not drink the tap water. Use it for showering and washing dishes, but stick to purified water for drinking and making ice. For long-term stays, buy 20-liter blue water jugs (garrafones) at any local Oxxo or tiendita. You can flag down the delivery trucks (Ceiba, Epura or Cristal) rumbling through neighborhoods, or coordinate scheduled home delivery directly via local WhatsApp dispatch groups.
